Progreso Financiero Participates in D.C. Symposium on America's Underbanked

On October 23, 2009, the Pew Charitable Trusts, New America Foundation and the Center for Financial Services Innovation sponsored a symposium entitled "New, Safe and Affordable Credit Options for America's Underbanked: Lessons Learned, Trends, and Implications for Government Policy" that discussed the growing problem of lack of safe and affordable credit choices for low and moderate income consumers. Congressman Barney Frank, Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, Marty Gruenberg Vice Chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, and Gene Sperling, Counselor U.S. Department of the Treasury were keynote speakers at the symposium where they shared their views and insights.

Panels of industry experts, academics, senior agency staff and consumer advocates talked about what has been tried to date to address this issue, learnings from those efforts, and new ideas and innovations that are being tested and brought online. Progreso Financiero's CEO, James Gutierrez, addressed the lack of credit for the underserved and offering insight into how Progreso Financiero is changing the credit landscape for the underserved population.
